With a couple of jump scenes and way too much blood and gore, horror movies just aren't what they used to be. Fortunately, there are still some great quality horror movies out there. 1) The Exorcist
Quite possible the scariest horror movie of all time, the Exorcist is the story of a young girl (Regan) who has been possessed by an evil spirit after experimenting with the oh-so-feared Ouija board. As strange experiences and events start to surround Regan (levitations, unbelievable strength, shaking beds), her mother is left with no other choice but to contact a psychiatric priest. Convinced that Regan is possessed, the priest orders the exorcism of the spirit. The Exorcist, debuting in 1973, may be an older film but should not be underestimated. With graphics and audio that are far more advanced than the time, this is one movie that will leave you sleeping with the lights on!

2) Psycho
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Psycho is one horror movie that will live on forever. The storyline begins with an office worker named Marion Crane, unhappy with her current job and frustrated in her romantic life. Hoping to leave her hometown in Phoenix for good, Marion puts $40, 000 in her bank, and heads off looking for a new start. Exhausted on the road to a new life, Marion decides to pull off to the Bates Motel for a rest. Here, she meets innkeeper Norman Bates. What happens next is for you to find out. Be aware though, you may want to shower before watching this movie. After the movie is finished, you may be afraid to shower for days!

3) The Sixth Sense

A more recently debuting horror movie, the Sixth Sense is a story of a young boy (Cole) who claims to €see dead people.€ After displaying strange anti-social behaviors towards his mother, he is visited by child psychologist Malcom Crowe. Can Malcom help Cole realize that his fears are not real? Or is Malcom really being visited by people who do not know they are dead? With a great storyline, top-of-the-line acting, and an unbelievable twist, the Sixth Sense will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole movie!
4) Silence of the Lambs

In this Oscar award winning movie, FBI agent Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster) is provided with a special assignment to investigate a notorious murderer named Buffalo Bill. In an attempt to gain more insight into the case, Clarice interviews Dr. Hannibal Lecter (played by Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist and violent psychopath who has been serving time for cannibalism and murder. But at what price will this much needed information come? How far is Clarice willing to go to get information from Dr. Hannibal Lecter? One of the most interesting storylines in the history of horror movies, the Silence of the Lambs is a must see for all horror fans.
5) Texas Chainsaw Massacre
For those gore lovers, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the perfect movie for you. During a road trip, 5 teenagers come across a hitchhiker covered in blood. Shortly after picking her up, she shoots herself. While in search of a phone to call the police, the 5 teenagers become hunted by a family of cannibals that live nearby. What makes this movie scary, however, is not the cannibalism, the method of killing, or the blood and gore, but the fact that it is based on a true story!
