OPlus Launches XonPhone 5 After XonPad 7 Success

Getting a smart phone is never easy as most people are not sure what to look for in a smart phone and often look for those phones that offer value.
Smart phone maker, Oplus have launched their first smart phone, the XonPhone 5 that has been designed for the budget Indian market for a price of Rs. 7999/-. Oplus India is a subsidiary of Oplus Taiwan and the smart phone has been launched exclusively through Snapdeal.com- this is a current trend in the market where upcoming brands partner with top online retailers.
The makers of the XonPhone 5, OPlus, have brought out this handset into the market at a time when other upcoming names like Obi Mobiles and Xiaomi have brought out their own hand sets. So the competitive atmosphere for XonPhone 5 will be very tough.
You also have a quad core 1.3 GHz processor by MediaTek on the XonPhone 5, this is just right for the phone, considering its price point and yes, you do get fluid multitasking and great speed from the phone as well.
This smart phone also has other top features too; OPlus has added an HD 5 inch display that has a resolution of 1280x 720 pixels. With the Full View feature, you can view the screen from any angle and responsive kinetic scrolling is superb. Zooming in and out of screens is also easier as the screen is very wide.
There is a 1 GB RAM on the XonPhone 5 that has been added with 16 GB of onboard storage, this can be increased as you have a micro SD slot that supports 32 GB. There is an 8 MP and a 2 MP camera with the LED flash, auto focus, tap-to-focus and geo-tagging. The smart phone works on the Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat and has a 2000 mAh battery. In terms of design, the phone has a back cover that looks like the perforated S5 cover.Performance:-
The OPlus XonPhone 5 is surprisingly lagged free but it does develop small lags that are barely noticeable to those who have used android for the first time or very sparingly. You won't experience any interruptions while checking out various apps or scrolling through home screens. These only show up when the phone opens heavy apps.
In the An Tutu and Quadrant, the XonPhone 5 had scored 6752 and 16821 respectively, the smart phone did not score too well in the graphics bench marking. In the GFX bench tests, the XonPhone had scored only 7 FPS and 3139 in the 3D Mark Ice Storm bench test- these numbers come after evaluating how a Mali 400 MP 2 powers a screen with a 720 pixels resolution. This means that while smaller, casual games will work on the XonPhone 5, don't expect massive games like Modern Combat or Asphalt 8 to work without lagging.Camera:-
Usually Indian smart phone companies stick with the Android Gingerbread camera even though the phone has the latest version of the Android OS, which is functional but looks ugly. The camera on the OPlus XonPhone 5 is an 8 MP camera, the images are focused and those in low light also come out perfectly. You also have the option of adjusting the images and videos with geo-tagging, tap-to-focus and auto focus and videos in 1080 pixels are captured at 30 FPS. You can use voice capture for the cameras.
The XonPhone 5 comes with a 2 MP camera that is good and the videos and images that it produces are good enough for uploading and sharing. Video playback is in 1080 pixels and the audio quality is also not bad but there is a grill over the external speaker that muffles the sound at times.
The headset that is provided by OPlus also delivers good sound and the call quality was also very clear. The XonPhone 5 battery is only 2000 mAh this can be found on other smart phones in the same price range, it lasts for about 5 whole hours on normal usage.Verdict:-
There is a give and take balance of features on the XonPhone 5 that makes it worth its price tag of Rs. 7999/-. You also get a very generous 16 GB of internal space and that the external body of the phone has been infused with metal accents and finish that give the smart phone a very sturdy feel. Other phones like the Zenphone 4 by Asus, the Moto E by Motorola and the Unite 2 by Micromax are the competitors for the XonPhone 5. The XonPhone 5 is your choice of smart phone if you want a phone with a bigger screen and includes most of the features that you are most likely to use in a smart phone.
