The Jenn Air Dryer Barrel Will Not Spin

    Insufficient Power

    • It is important to supply enough power to the Jenn-Air dryer to prevent malfunction. Avoid plugging the dryer into an extension cord and verify that the power cord is completely pushed into a live electrical outlet. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse as needed if there has recently been a power failure. If there is power to the outlet but the dryer is still not turning, remove other appliances from the same outlet to increase the overall power supply.

    Starting the Dryer

    • Sometimes it can be easy to overlook some of the basics of appliance operation, which can lead to thinking that there is something wrong. Shut the dryer door firmly so that an audible click or latch is heard, because the unit won't operate if the door is ajar. Press or select "Power" to make sure the dryer is turned on and then press or select "Start" once the cycle selection has been made.

    Minor Problems

    • Minor issues can stop the dryer from turning, such as obstructions in the dryer barrel. Look closely inside the dryer and along the edges around the barrel for small objects that may have gotten trapped between the seal and the housing. Such obstructions can keep the barrel from spinning. Other minor issues include overloading the dryer, which can temporarily cause the belt to slip and the barrel to stop moving. Take some of the items out of the dryer and try starting it again.

    Major Problems

    • Unfortunately, there are also more serious problems that can stop the dryer barrel from turning. If the belt breaks or is damaged, or there are issues with the motor, pulley, timer, wiring or door switch, the dryer will not function. These problems will require the assistance of a Jenn-Air or other service professional for repair or replacement.
