Ko Samui Flower & Butterfly Garden
The Ko Samui Flower & Butterfly garden is at Laem Natien this is on the south-eastern coast of Ko Samui near to the Central Samui Villiage resort and near to the Aquarium. This tropical park contains literally thousands of butterflies and plant species which are native to Thailand. There is also an observatory overlooking the coast, and the garden can organize tours of the local coral reefs in Ko Samui.
The butterflies and plants are kept under large and tall nets to keep the butterflies in, also providing shade which is much needed for many of the varieties of plants and to help keep the visitors out of the sun. Many photographers come to these gardens, you can often see Japanese and Korean enthusiasts experimenting with their macro lenses – snapping up a little of natured beauty to take home with them.
Visitors can see many species of butterflies, including some giant butterflies which have wing-spans of over 25 cm. Some of these butterflies are very rare and endangered species. As well as butterflies you can see many other types of insects including crickets, grasshoppers, stick insects and bees. Indeed there is a large bee area where you can see honey being collected and processed. You may wish to purchase some of this delicious honey to take home with you.
There is an insect museum at the gardens; you can see rare insects from Thailand and other parts of the world. These include live insects such as giant lady-bugs, huge stick insects, and scary looking spiders as well as not so threatening dead preserved insects which can be purchased as a souvenir.
The Ko Samui Flower & Buttterfly garden is a great day out for the whole family. There is entertainment for the children, as well as sweets and ice cream when they grew tired of walking around in the heat. Adults too may enjoy lounging around on the grass in the shade of the tree, a good place to read a book and relax in the idyllic surroundings.
