How to Clean a Newly Constructed Home

    • 1). Gather up the large trash, such as leftover wood. This is where you would likely need a rented or borrowed pickup truck or dumpster to haul away the debris. Use contractor bags to carry other heavy and pointy trash. Contractor bags are very strong and don't easily break.

    • 2). Clean both sides of all windows. You will need an extension ladder to safely reach the upper windows. Carefully scrape all labels off using a razor blade holder that holds the blade on the bottom.

    • 3). Vacuum the carpet and the wood floors. Get into all the crevices and corners of the house with the vacuum attachments. You may have to vacuum the walls, too.

    • 4). Dust everything you can't vacuum, including light fixtures and ledges.

    • 5). Sanitize and clean all surfaces. Use stainless-steel cleaner on appliances. Use Lysol disinfectant in the bathrooms and kitchen.

    • 6). Mop hardwood floors last. Be careful to choose a cleanser described as safe for the type of hardwood floor you have.
