Why You Should Settle an Insurance Claim Yourself

Have you ever been in a car accident, slip and fall or similar incident that caused you bodily harm? I was just recently in a very bad car accident and what a disaster it turned out to be.
I was advised to get an attorney so I did, let me tell you this guy is a freaking joke.
He doesn't return calls, I don't hear from him for months on end much less I have been paying all my deductibles even though he has a lien on file.
In case you don't know what a lien is it is, basically they sign this to take the responsibility of medical bills and other expenditures.
He has just informed me that the insurance is willing to settle for the maximum limit if the insurance policy.
Sounds good uh? Not really I have kept very accurate records on each time we have spoken and it all adds up to less than 30 min on the phone and 1 ten minute meeting.
He is charging me nearly four thousand dollars for doing nothing! And the difference goes to my medical bills I couldn't pay.
The bottom line is this he cannot even explain to me what his bill would be if I fire him and just paid him for the work that he has done.
I would advise everyone to be very careful before consulting an attorney they are not capable of doing anything we can't.
They say do not make statements to the insurance company, yet I now believe this is a scare tactic to the victim in getting the attorney to defend your case.
In my example I could have easily went directly to the insurance company and negotiated with them myself.
But I didn't I was confused and scared and now not only broken but broke! Please don't let this happen to you, weigh all of your options first before you just run out and get an attorney because you think he might know what he's talking about or even worse that he might have your best interest in mind.
I hope no one has to go through what I did to learn this lesson.
