How to Make Hair on IMVU With GIMP

    Instructions to Derive Hair

    • 1). Choose a hair product in the IMVU 3D Virtual Catalog that has the option to derive the hair.

    • 2). Launch the IMVU chat client. Click "Create" to open the "Create Mode Editor Program."

    • 3). Select "Derive a New Product." A small window will appear titled "Derive a New 3D Product." Return to the hair you have chosen in the IMVU 3D Virtual Catalog and click "Derive from Product." The product will now appear in the "Create Mode Editor Program." If you are unable to see the hair selected, click the "X" in the window that appeared. You will be able to see the hair now, and you will not lose any information.

    • 4). Launch GIMP. Three windows will appear. In the untitled window, select "File," "New" and "Template." Under "Template" select "600 x 800" and "OK." You should now see a blank window.

    • 5). Go to the window that is titled "Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo"; select "Patterns" in the lower portion of the window. Drag and drop the selected pattern you wish to use into the "Untitled" window.

    • 6). Save the pattern you created in GIMP as a ".jpg, .png, .gif, .bmp or .tga file". Be sure to save the pattern to an area on your computer you can find easily.

    • 7). Go back to the IMVU "Create Mode Editor Program." Click "Edit" on the color shown in the box under texture.

    • 8). Locate the pattern you had saved and open the image. Once open the image will appear in the IMVU "Create Mode" program in place of the color that was previously there.

    • 9). Click "Apply Changes" on the top-right corner of the IMVU "Create Mode" program. Your avatar should be wearing the hair with the pattern and color you created.

      Click "Save." Be sure to choose a name for you hair creation that you will remember when searching for the hair in your IMVU inventory.

      Click "Upload" to be able to use your new hair on your avatar.
