Mustang Customizer: Beau Boeckmann and Galpin Auto Sports

< Continued from page 1

The All-Inclusive Shop

After being selected for Pimp My Ride, Beau began to assemble his team and design the shop that would house Galpin Autos Sports. Beau wanted more than just a shop that would focus on customizing Mustangs. He wanted to create a business that would work on all kinds of vehicles. Beau explained, “We wanted to have something that was all inclusive. No matter what you’ve got, if you’re into customizing your cars, if you’re passionate about your car, we wanted to have that Mecca where you go.

We wanted a place really headed up by people who love custom cars.”
It should be noted, however, that Beau is still a Ford Mustang guy at heart. His shop has been the creative force behind the grabber blue Boss 302 Mustang which appeared at the SEMA show several years ago, the one-of-a-kind Warriors in Pink Mustang, and the Knight Rider Shelby GT500KR KITT Mustang. In fact, Mustangs are such big business for Galpin, their Ford dealership has a dedicated Mustang showroom featuring Saleen, ROUSH, and G.A.S. customized pony cars. Galpin also has its own Starbucks Coffee shop as well as a restaurant, the Horseless Carriage.

Buy a Mustang then Get it ‘Galpinized’

As for the actual custom work, Galpin Auto Sports says they make it easy for customers of Galpin Ford to create a customized Mustang. Dealership customers often come to G.A.S. to have their new vehicles customized. As an added perk, they are able to work the added expense into their dealership financing. Beau said, “It’s helped us, and it’s helped the dealership business because we’re bringing in customers too.

Some people come to Galpin Auto Sports and say, ‘Oh, I’ve been thinking about getting a new car.’ It’s good all around.”
As for standing out in a world of many custom shops, Beau stressed that there is power in numbers and diversity. He said, “Most shops specialize in audio/video, tires, engines, or paint/body. We’re different because we start off with this incredible pool of resources. We have over 200 technicians here between the shop and the dealership. So we start off with this basis of ‘man, we know how to fix and work on anything. That’s our specialty, we can do that. Beau added, “It’s not how pretty the shop is or what we say we can do. It’s what we accomplish with the talent we have. So we’ve been very fortunate to have the best people here which is exciting to me.”

Lights, Camera, Action…

Customizing cars can be a grueling task. Customizing cars that appears on television weekly can make things even more challenging. Beau described working with the television show as a seven-day-a-week affair. He said, “It’s not as easy as it looks. It’s very challenging on our show. Because of our reputation, we can’t just make this thing look pretty and stick it out there. We have to make sure the vehicle is safe. We go through the brakes, we go through the transmission, and we go through the engine. We do everything that you don’t see on camera to make sure it is safe. We want to have a good reputation at every level. And we want them to be happy and for everything to work properly.”

A Collection of Work

All-in-all, there’s no doubt that this shop has created its fair share of customized Mustangs. Let’s take a look at some of G.A.S’ Pony Cars.
