Hair Restoration Surgery: The Revolutionary Solution For Hair Loss Victims

Men and women both go through the terrible experience of hair loss. Losing hair can have a devastating effect on a persons appearance as well as self esteem. Properly done hair restoration surgery helps such people reclaim there self confidence
In last 10 years, methods of restoration of hair for both men and women have improved tremendously. In present times, modern medical therapies help in slowing down hair loss and advanced surgical procedures help in restoration of lost hair. Nowadays, hair transplantation no longer gives that unattractive, unwanted hair plug appearance.
Dr. Okuda from Japan was the first person to describe hair transplant. He used transplanted hair to restore damaged eyelashes and eyebrows. But his valuable discovery could not reach out to the rest of the world for the following two decades due to the mayhem caused by the outbreak of World War II. The first report that was widely read on hair transplantation surgery was published in 1959 by Dr. Norman Orintreich. Since then restoration of hair has been helping mankind to have a better life.
Hair restoration surgery is an operation that actually redistributes hair. In this operation, hair is taken from back and different sides of the scalp and replaced on the areas of hair loss.
The aim of hair restoration is:
To recreate or to fill in the reducing or thinning hairline
Fill in patches on the scalp where hair loss is noticeable.
The area from where the hairs are removed is known as the Donor Site. Donor Dominant Hair is the fringe of hair that has been transplanted on the bald area. The hair, which has been transplanted on the bald area, does not lose its ability to grow.
To get a natural look, hairs are implanted into separate holes to replicate their natural growth process after transferring them into:
Single hair grafts.
The finest and softest look is achieved by single hair graft. It does not provide much density but it provides the soft hair line which acts as a transition to thicker hair.
Micro grafts.
Small grafts containing 2-3 hairs are called micro grafts. Hair density can be gradually increased by placing micro grafts behind the hairline.
Mini grafts.
These grafts contain 4 or more hairs. Placed behind the hairline these larger grafts provide the density in which the single hair graft and the micro graft can blend naturally.
In a hair transplantation surgery, it is of immense importance to recreate the hairline with absolute perfection at the very first time. Hence, before the surgery is done, proper planning is a necessity that can never be ignored.
Important points to be taken into account and discussed with surgeon before surgery are:
Hair and Skin of the patient
Patients ethnic background
Age of the patient
History of hair loss in patients family
The technique that is to be applied
Availability of surgical facilities
Possibility of complications
Duration of the treatment.
