How to Choose the Right Cabinets for Kitchen Organization
- 1). Test the drawers. The drawers of your cabinets are an important storage feature. They should be well made and easy to operate. Look for drawers with solid-wood sides and a plywood bottom, rather than particleboard.
- 2). Pay close attention to the quality of the shelves inside the cabinet. If you're using your cabinets for organization, you want to be able to easily store even heavy kitchen appliances that might not get used that often, such as a food processor. Shelves that are only 5/8 to 1/2 inch thick might sag under too much weight. Instead, make sure the shelf material is at least 3/4 inch thick.
- 3). Test the depth of the cabinets you're considering. This will depend on the types of items you would like to store. You wouldn't want items that you would want to store and organize, such as larger pots and pans, to not fit inside your cabinets. That would make using them for kitchen organization more difficult.
- 4). Test the height of the cabinet. Like the width, you want to make sure all of the items that you want to store and organize will fit easily inside your kitchen cabinets.
- 5). Count up how many individual cabinets and drawers you will need to stay properly organized. Make sure the kitchen cabinets you choose have at least as much space as you need. Having a little extra space is a good idea because then you have room to purchase new items that could be larger or oddly shaped.
