Spring in Massachusetts is muddy and wet, even if it doesn't rain much. Average precipitation from April to May totals 6.84 inches on the coast and 8.27 inches inland. Spring, especially late March and early April, seems wetter than it is due to the melting snow. The temperature averages 45 to 60 F. Spring weather begins in the last week of March or first week of April, and ends in the second half of May.

Fall in Massachusetts is usually sunny, despite the average precipitation of 11.24 inches on the coast and 13.28 inches inland (most of which comes in October and November when it is already a bit cooler and darker).

The foliage in Massachusetts is especially famous. The trees turn bright shades of red, orange and yellow as the temperature drops. Fall weather begins in mid-September and ends in mid to late November. The average temperature in the fall is 45 to 60 F, nights however can drop below 40 F.

The Weather Channel features a "foliage forecast" which can help you plan when to check out the fall colors.
