Chapstick Stain Removal

    Pre-Treatment

    • Pre-treating the stain can help get rid of the oily mess and prevent the stain from getting worse. Scrape away as much of the leftover Chapstick as possible. Use a plastic straight edge to avoid damaging the clothes with a knife.

You can use several products to pre-treat the stain in order to remove it. A small amount of OxiClean powder stain remover and water can be used to pre-treat Chapstick stains. Apply the mixture to the stain by rubbing it over the entire area with your fingers. Wait ten minutes before placing the garment in the wash. Do not allow the solution to dry on the fabric before washing. You can also soak the garment in OxiClean and water for several hours before washing. Tide Stain Release can also be used as a pre-treatment for Chapstick stains. Apply the liquid formula directly to the stain. There's no need to dilute it with water. Wait ten minutes, then wash the garment.

    Washing and Drying

    • Wash the stained clothing in hot water. Use the highest temperature setting on your washing machine or hand wash the clothing item in very hot tap water. Add the standard amount of detergent to the load. Do not put other clothes in with the stained clothing in case the Chapstick oils spread.

Dry the clothes once you are sure the Chapstick stain is completely gone. You may have to send the clothing through multiple wash cycles to get rid of it completely. The high heat of drying can set the stain. When you do dry the clothing, either tumble dry on low or air dry on a clothing line.
