400 Year Old Heritage Hyderabad
Located in the state of Andhra Pradesh in the Southern part of the country, the city of Hyderabad houses a number of places of interest. Charminar: Is the most famous landmark at the heart of the city, it is a fine example of Cazia architecture and is known as mosque of the 4 minarets. It is a historical monument which is 54 meters high. This monument is decorated with lotus buds. On the top floor is located a small mosque. There are 45 prayer spaces and people throng to this mosque for the Friday prayers.
Golconda Fort: Built in the 13th century, it is a massive structure. The boundary wall of Golconda Fort that towers to a height of about 120 meters covers about 10 km. There are four small forts inside Golconda Fort which comprise of armory, temples, mosques, stables, etc. The fort has 8 gates. The main features of Golconda Fort are its royal palaces, efficient water supply system, and 10 km long walls.
Birla Mandir: Is located on a hillock dedicated to Lord Venkateswara. The temple is made from white marble bought from Rajasthan. One can have a spectacular view of some of the sculpted scenes from epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata in marble in the temple premise. The granite image of the presiding deity in the Mandir is about 11 feet tall. There is a carved lotus that serves as an umbrella to the presiding deity.
Mecca Masjid: Is the earliest as well as the largest of all the mosques in the city. The main feature of the mosque is the 3 high walls which are supported by 15 arches. Thousands of sermons from the holy Quran were written on the arches of the Mecca Masjid. There is a room in the courtyard that stores holy relics, among which the most important is the hair of Prophet Mohammed.
Husain Sagar Lake: Is the largest artificial lake in Asia, it is designated as the Tank Bund. Towards the middle of the lake, there is a huge monolithic statue of Lord Buddha in white granite. It has become a prominent centre for water sports.
Qutub Shahi Tombs: The grandeur of the tombs is ensconced amidst the beautiful and picturesque landscape and gardens of Ibrahim Bagh and the architecture of the tombs are varied, displaying Hindu, Persian, and Pathan forms - Indo-Persian architectures. It rises to a height of 42.5 meters, topped by a large dome. 28 open arches are located on each side.
