How do I Buy a Wrecked 1997 Mustang?

    • 1). Visit local junkyards that sell vehicles or vehicle parts. Locate them through your local chamber of commerce or by flipping through your local telephone directory. Look for listings in your area for junk car dealers or salvage auto dealers. Inquire about any 1997 Mustangs for sale. Also, purchase local newspapers and scan the classifieds section listing automobiles for sale.

    • 2). Search online for a wrecked 1997 Mustang. Sites such as Autotrader.com, Automotix.com and Erepairables.com let you use keyword searches. Enter specific details in the search box, including the year, model and make. Also, enter your location or state for a more targeted search.

    • 3). View online auction sites, like Salvageauto, EBay and Insurance Auto Auctions, for a wrecked 1997 Mustang for sale. These sites provide listings by insurance companies of Mustangs that have been totaled in wrecks.

    • 4). Contact the owners of any Mustang you locate. Obtain the vehicle identification number, details regarding the extent of the damage and the odometer reading.

    • 5). Purchase the wrecked 1997 Mustang by paying cash. If the title is salvaged, most lenders will not provide a loan for the vehicle. Therefore, purchase a Mustang you can afford to buy outright.

    • 6). Get a bill of sale and a signed copy of the title when purchasing the Ford Mustang. Make sure the seller prints and signs his/her name in the appropriate area on the back of the title.
