"The Dukes of Hazzard" - Various Artists

About.com Rating

The Bottom Line

This is a fun CD to listen to, and probably most appreciated by fans of the Dukes of Hazzard television series. The CD has some great songs on it but it is interspersed with commentary from the original series characters throughout the music. Someone who didn't watch the series probably wouldn't appreciate the Roscoe P. Coltrain song, "Flash" as much of those of us who grew up with the show.

It is a sentimental addition to your CD collection.

  • "Ballad of the General Lee" - Doug Kershaw

  • Running commentary from Sorrel Brooks (Boss Hogg) throughout CD.

Guide Review - 'The Dukes of Hazzard' - Various Artists

This is a fun Soundtrack album to listen to. It has been a trip down memory lane listening to Boss Hogg yelling at Roscoe to go catch those Duke boys throughout the CD, in between all the great country songs. And the serious songs took a break here and there for Sheriff Roscoe to sing about his beloved Flash. "Go, Flash, Go" he says, "in a one dog race he'd come in last." Anyone who watched the show could only laugh at that one as the slow, loveable beagle comes to mind.

Waylon Jennings sang the theme song of the show, "Good Ol' Boys." Every week he lamented about how they showed his hands on tv but not his face. Johnny Cash's distinctive voice can be heard singing "The General Lee." And Doug Kershaw lends a Cajun beat to "Ballad of General Lee." Catherine Bach, Daisy Duke, sings "Down Home American Girl." John Schneider sings "Them Good Old Boys are Bad" and really adds to the country flavor of the CD.

Waylon & Willie sing "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys" and Waylon's theme song closes the CD.

In general, this was a great CD. I think fans of the show would probably appreciate it the most, but everyone would enjoy the good music. They did leave a lot of the chatter from the actors throughout the CD, so if you didn't watch the show you would have no idea what they were talking about for the most part. But the bottom line is that the music is really good and puts a smile on your face.
