Midgett Realty Announces 100omeowner Participation In Recycling Efforts On Hatteras Island
Vacation Rental Recycling Program Keeps Over 175 Tons of Waste Out of Landfills In 2009
Hatteras Island, North Carolina November/Midgett Realty/Press Release - Midgett Realty offering more than 560 vacation rental properties on Hatteras Island and The Outer Banks since the 1960s is pleased to announce that it is the first and only property management company on Hatteras Island to have 100% participation from its homeowners in its recycling efforts. This partnership between Midgett Realty, the homeowners they represent and vacationers helped keep over 175 tons of recyclable materials out of local landfills during the 2009 rental season.
Midgett Realty started their recycling efforts in 2007 and they were able to divert over 30 tons of materials from landfills. In 2008 they doubled the amount of recyclable glass, plastic and aluminum to over 60 tons. By providing curbside recycling to every vacation rental property they manage; reducing the amount of paper leaving their office by taking advantage of technology and by not printing a brochure (27 tons of paper) they estimate by the end of 2009 they will have reduced waste by 177 tons. Close to six times the amount of recyclable material in three short years.
Midgett Realty has always been in the forefront of good citizenship on Hatteras Island and the Outer Banks and our recycling efforts are a natural extension of citizenship and leadership. Hatteras Island has been our home for many generations and we feel it is our responsibility to give back to the community in any we can. The Outer Banks and Hatteras Island are surrounded by so much natural beauty that we want to keep clean and safe for our vacationers, homeowners and families. The idea of starting a recycling program was obvious to us and we are very proud of the results, stated Anthony Fletcher, General Manager of Midgett Realty. For over 40 years The Midgett Family and Midgett Realty have been committed to the betterment of Hatteras Island and the Outer Banks. We will continue to look for even more ways to help the environment and we invite all of our visitors to join our efforts and urge other companies to do the same.

About Midgett Realty
Serving Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina has been a Midgett family tradition for over a century. In the 1960s two brothers named Midgett started a real estate company, and today, their children, grandchildren and other staff of Midgett Realty offer over 560 vacation cottages and condos for rent.
The Midgett family has lived on the Outer Banks for at least three centuries, and today's Midgetts are descendants of the tough, independent seafaring men and women who managed to thrive and survive on these isolated barrier islands. They have been fishermen and lifesavers and surfmen, and they have been the operators of the famous Hatteras Island - Manteo Bus Line, which carried islanders and visitors up and down the beach in the days before roads and bridges.
Today they are the owners of Hatteras Island's premier, full-service real estate company. Midgett Realty is one of the island's oldest family owned businesses, and the only real estate company owned and managed by Hatteras Island natives. The Midgett Realty family stands ready to share with you all the experiences they have had in several generations of living and working on Hatteras Island.
