A Closer Look at the LG GD880 Mini
The latest mobile phone offering from LG is the new GD880 Mini.
A very compact and unusual looking phone thanks to it comprising of all straight lines and right angles.
This will appeal to some people and not others, none the less it is a stylish and well-considered handset.
Rather than opting to compete with the bevy of Smartphones currently available, LG have opted to stick with their familiar S Class operating system.
This makes the menus look vivid and colourful and takes full advantage of the GD880's pixel dense screen.
However some changes have taken place with the system, mainly that the traditional cube based homescreen has been replaced by a single home screen that spans across 3 times the width of the screen.
Simply put, a swipe of your finger left or right will reveal the parts to the homescreen that are not currently visible.
This interface is fully customisable by the user, allowing you to add shortcuts, widgets or bookmark to this main screen, all together resulting in a more user friendly, relevant and mature end product that on previous models.
A welcome addition to the LG GD880 Mini is the inclusion of apps for Twitter and Facebook.
These applications work in much the same way as the iPhones version for example, allowing the user to upload photos, update statuses and generally keep up with the goings on in your online community.
Such features are a very good idea, but fail if not supported by the relevant Internet connectivity, but the Mini has no problems here.
EDGE, 3G and the hallowed WiFi are all represented, meaning wherever you are this handset is going to give you the ultimate in online features.
The GD880's web browser itself is fairly impressive.
Pinch and Zoom is supported and the inclusion of Flash support is a great idea.
Despite loading speed being slower than on the iPhone 3GS, they are still reasonable, and we do have to consider that this in essence is not a "smartphone" either.
The unit itself is relatively compact as its name suggests.
Measuring just 102 x 47.
6 x 10.
6mm and weighing 99 grammes it is small, yet not tiny.
this is due in part to a hugely impressive 3.
2" TFT screen being fitted.
Showing a resolution of 480 x 854, images appear crisp and the screen looks particularly great for viewing media content via the gallery.
The LG GD880 Mini is certainly a very impressive handset.
From its looks down to its great screen the phone appeals on all counts.
Despite not being as powerful as some of the smartphones available, there is enough on this great little handset to keep even the most fussy phone fan happy.
