Why Change Your Name?

Call me old fashioned but my idea of marriage is the entire works which will include taking your new husbands surname.
Why? 1.
If you have a surname that you do not like then this is a great way to say good bye to it in a friendly manner.
2.
Here is an idea on changing your name - If you have a surname that you do like then go for the double barrel version by keeping your own name and taking his surname also e.
g.
Mrs Mary Heywood Jones - see it makes a simple name look good.
Caution here as this is only one generation solution as your children can not continue this legacy imagine Mrs.
Katie Heywood Jones Boylan, next generation Lisa Heywood Jones Boylan Wilkinson -- get the picture.
So the double barrelled is one to consider but in the long term not very friendly.
3.
Here is a reason for changing your name - If you are planning on having children it makes more sense for all of you to have the same surname.
You may say not everyone who has children gets married so what then - exactly then children and parents will have two lots of names - my main points are all to do with tying the knot, getting married, saying I do then either go with tradition or do you own thing.
4.
By taking his surname it can help you feel more like family and reinforces the commitment that comes with your wedding day vows.
I hear you ask what about him taking your surname - yes why not start a new generation..
...
But if you are into tradition then it is you as the female that takes the males surname.
Must look up where this tradition comes from.
In summary do what you feel most comfortable with.
Always remember it is your big day so make it a good one and be happy with all of your decisions.
Sometimes I feel growing up in the times when your options were limited was not a bad thing.
I remember when I was getting married you had no choice, or so I believed, but to take your husbands last name.
Why did I believe that because everyone was taking the husband's last name then and thinking out of the box was something that was not encouraged.
Yes I am glad that life has changed and for the better.
So always live with your decisions once made.
Wedding times are very stressful times so it is important that you maintain good energy and protect yourself against Electronic Magnetic Fields (mobile phones, microwaves, TV's, to name but a few), and get yourself into prime condition for that big day of yours.
