DVD Pick: The Grapes of Wrath

About.com Rating

The DVD also has a 45-minute A & E biography of 20th Century Fox studio boss Darryl F. Zanuck, which I found entertaining but shallow. In addition, the DVD provides a few other bonus materials, all of which I thought were of only marginal interest. The U.K. Prologue consists of two screens of text touching on the Dust Bowl and the socio-economic problems in the U.S. during the 1930s, and I seem to recall seeing these screens on a VHS version of the movie I watched a few years ago.

There are also some Movietone News segments, three of which are from 1934 and report on the severe drought conditions in the American Mid-West. Another Movietone News segment is about President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivering a direct radio address to the attendees at the 1941 Academy Awards, which were given out at a banquet at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
