Deer Camp Gear for Hunters

Many deer hunters like going deep into the woods and setting up a deer camp. There are some important things to consider when you're going camping, safety being a number one priority, then the camping gear that you'll need when you're out there in the wild.

There are also hunting trips you can book out west in places like Montana and the Dakota's that require you to pack up your camping gear as well as your hunting gear and ride horseback to your deer camp site.

But whether you're setting up camp locally in the woods or heading out west by horseback, your list of camping gear should camping tents, a good hunting knife, camping stoves, extra clothes, dry wood, matches, and First Aid kits.

One of the first things you may decide to buy is a camping tent. Some hunters may enjoy sleeping outside under the stars, but personally, camping tents are a must if you're like me and you don't want to wake up looking like a pin cushion from all the bugs attacking you.

Another good item to have in your deer camp gear is a good knife, especially if you need to clear out an area to set up camp. They also come in handy for cutting rope to use with setting up a tree stand or even making a temporary carrier for an animal you may have shot.

A folding pocket knife also comes in handy to gut or field dress your buck or doe after you tag it. A tactical knife can be almost any type of knife that deals with anything from surviving in the wild to tactical uses in the military.

While as a hunter you may never set up camp in the middle of a remote jungle, you can still take advantage of the benefits a tactical knife. You can cut branches and split tender with the serrated edge of a tactical knife to clear a camping area or to build a campfire, and you can gut fish or skin animals with the straight blade of a survival tactical knife.

Regardless of what type of knife you decide to get, always be sure to shop around and get opinions or look at reviews in hunting magazines or on hunting websites. You don't want to buy a knife that isn't going to do what you need it to do.

Another piece of deer camp gear you might want to look for is a camping stove. Camping stoves are a great way to cook all those yummy burgers and eggs for breakfast along with the dishes, spoons, forks, etc. If you prefer cooking over an open fire then you would need some kind of rack or plate to cook on and dry wood to burn. But whether you cook with a camping stove or over an open fire, nothing tastes better after a long day of hunting than a cheeseburger from campfire.
