Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe Ski Area
Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe ski resort (or just Mt. Rose) has the highest base elevation (8260') of any ski resort around Lake Tahoe and is the closest ski resort to Reno. In about half an hour, you can be on the slopes at Mt. Rose, enjoying fantastic views of Sierra Nevada peaks, Washoe Valley, and the Lake Tahoe Basin. Varied terrain, reasonable lift ticket prices, proximity to Reno, and a magnificent setting make Mt.
Rose one of our most attractive ski areas.
Mt. Rose Ski Area Features and Amenities
Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is a full-service ski area with all the features you would expect to find at a top resort, including lessons, ski equipment rentals, a variety of events, lift ticket specials, and terrain parks. The base elevation, highest in the Lake Tahoe area, is 8,260 feet and the top is 9,700 feet. Skiable terrain totals 1200 acres. There is no lodging at Mt. Rose, but lodging/skiing packages are available from a number of Reno hotel/casinos.
Slide (East) Bowl - Winters Creek Lodge is the hub of skier activity at Slide Bowl. It is right at the base of the Blazig Zephyr 6 chairlift, which serves the wide variety of runs on this side of the mountain. Slide Bowl is where you can access several runs on The Chutes, Mt. Rose's famous single and double black diamond runs. When you see these slopes, it is obvious why they are for advanced/expert skiers only.
Main Lodge - This is the hub of activity at Mt. Rose ski area.
Numerous lifts cover all the runs, from the Ponderosa lift for beginner slopes to the Northwest Magnum 6 that takes advanced skiers to the top of the mountain. There is also a snowshoe area for those seeking a more leisurely winter day in the mountains.
Rosebuds for Kids
Rosebuds is the children's ski and snowboard camp program at Mt. Rose. There are morning and afternoon sessions, with ski lessons designed for kids ages 4 to 10 and snowboarding for those ages 7 to 10. You can register in two ways - online or on - site. Online registration ensures your child a spot, while on - site registration is first - come, first - serve and subject to being sold out.

Getting to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe
The Mt. Rose main lodge is 25 miles from downtown Reno. You get there by taking the Mt. Rose Highway (Nevada 431) at the intersection with S. Virginia Street (location of The Summit Mall) and following the signs toward Lake Tahoe and Incline Village. Shortly before reaching the Mt. Rose Summit on the highway, you'll see the left turn into the parking area for the Mt. Rose ski area. A couple of miles before reaching the main lodge area, there is a left turn that takes you to the Slide (or East) Bowl part of the Mt. Rose ski area. This is the site of Winters Creek Lodge (opened in January, 2010) and ski runs overlooking Washoe Valley to the east. You can ski between the Mt. Rose main lodge area and Slide Bowl by taking certain lifts from either side.
Just so you know, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe isn't really on Mt. Rose. It's on Slide Mountain, which is the peak immediately south of the real Mt. Rose. When you look southwest from Reno, Slide Mountain (with obvious ski runs) is on the left and Mt. Rose is on the right. The Mt. Rose Highway passes between the two on its way to Lake Tahoe. Just over the Mt. Rose Summit, this road passes through Tahoe Meadows, one of Reno's top family snow play areas.
