How to Make Your Own Signatures for Forums

    • 1). Open Photoshop. Find some photos of someone or something on the web that you would like to use for your graphic signature, or locate them on your computer. Open them in the program. You can use as few or as many photos as you like.

    • 2). Go to "File" and then "New" to create a new image. Make sure to select "Transparent" in the "Background Content" field in the small window that comes up. Set the measurements to 400 pixel width and 200 pixel height and then click "OK." 400x200 is ideal, as some forums have rules that don't allow images larger than that, but rules vary, depending on the individual forum.

    • 3). Go back to whichever photo you want to start, and resize it if you want by clicking "Select" and then going to "Image" and entering a new number in the width field (when you resize that, the height will also automatically resize). Click "Select" again and then go to "Edit" to copy it. Then, paste the photo into your new image. Use the arrow tool to position it where you want. Choose your next image and do the same, but paste it somewhat left or right of the focus of the first image you used. Make sure the images overlap at least by a few pixels.

    • 4). Blend around what you want to focus in your signature using the "Eraser" tool in the panel to the left in the program. Work slowly, and use a small brush. Or, you can use the "Lasso" tool, which works just as well. If you use the lasso, make sure the "Feather" feature box at the top of the page is set to a number higher than 0 pixels. It is best to use 8. Cut a small area around the main focus of the graphic and then click the "Delete" key to cut. This will blend just as well as the eraser tool.

    • 5). Repeat the above steps with as many photos as you wish to use in the signature. Once that is done, go to "Layer" and then "New" and select "Layer."

    • 6). Go to "Layer" again, this time selecting "New Adjustment Layer." There, you can colorize your image, make it grayscale, change the brightness/contrast, and a few other features are available as well. Most people colorize their signatures, so you may want to play around with the "Selective Color" and "Hue/Saturation" fields, scrolling to a colorization that suits your liking.

    • 7). Select individual layers in the layers panel to the lower right of your screen if you would like to sharpen each part of your image. To sharpen, go to "Filter," then to "Sharpen" and select "Sharpen."

    • 8). Use the brush, pattern and texture features for your graphic if you would like to add any. Brushes are found under the "Brush" tool in the panel to the left of your program, patterns are listed under "fx" icon in the box at the lower right of the screen under "Pattern Overlay" and textures are usually saved as image files. If you want to use a texture, open a texture image, select, copy and then paste it onto your graphic. Then, go to "Layer," then "Layer Style" and select "Blending Options." A new small window comes up that offers you a myriad of choices. The best for this type of graphic is "Screen." You can also set the opacity level to any percentage between 1 and 100.

    • 9). Using the "Type" tool in the panel to the left of the screen, place your cursor somewhere on the graphic where you would like to place your text. Type a word, phrase, name or whatever you like. You can highlight your text and then decide what font you want by going to the font field at the top left of your screen. You can also add various effects (e.g., border, bevel, emboss, etc.) to your text by selecting the "fx" icon at the right bottom of the program. Once you have what you want, you can add a border to your signature if you'd like. After you're finished, go to "File" and scroll to "Save As," naming your image whatever you want.
