How to Make Homemade Christmas Glass Decorations

    Glass Block Light

    • 1). Place a piece of vinyl large enough to fit the design you want to cut onto a cutting mat, and secure it down around the edges with masking tape.

    • 2). Place the stencil over the top of the vinyl, and secure it down with masking tape. Trace the stencil with a craft knife, making sure you cut through the vinyl.

    • 3). Remove the cut-out design from the vinyl. Peel the backing off of the vinyl and apply the design to the front of the glass block. Make sure you get all the air bubbles out from underneath the vinyl. To avoid air bubbles when applying the vinyl design to the glass block, adhere the design starting on one side of the design and slowly lower the design onto the glass block rubbing out any air bubbles as you go.

    • 4). Put on rubber gloves.

    • 5). Apply a generous amount of glass etching cream to the front of the glass block with a foam brush. Brush the glass etching cream out away from the vinyl design when applying the glass etching cream to the part of the glass block covered by the vinyl. Brushing the cream toward the vinyl may cause some of the etching cream to get under the vinyl, blurring the lines of your design.

    • 6). Leave the glass etching cream on for 40 minutes to allow time for the area of the front of the glass block not covered with the vinyl to become very frosted. Wipe the glass etching cream off with a wet towel, removing as much as you can with the towel, rinsing the towel if it because too covered in etching cream to be effective.

    • 7). Peel the vinyl design from the front of the glass block and rinse the glass block under a faucet to remove the rest of the etching cream. Set the glass block out to dry.

    • 8). Feed a strand of Christmas lights into the glass block through the hole in the bottom. Plug the lights into the wall and display the Christmas themed glass block light on a shelf or counter.

    Glass Bulb Ornaments

    • 1). Pull the top off of a clear glass Christmas bulb.

    • 2). Squeeze a quarter size amount of craft glue into the top of the Christmas ornament. Move the ornament around in order to coat the entire inside of the ornament with the craft glue. Try to work quickly so that craft glue doesn't start to dry. You can add more glue if the original amount is not enough to coat the inside of the ornament.

    • 3). Place a funnel in the opening of the Christmas ornament and pour a generous amount of glitter into the ornament through the funnel. Move the ornament around the same way you did to spread the glue to coat the inside of the ornament with glitter. Keep moving the ornament for a few minutes to give the glue a chance to start setting because you set it still to dry.

    • 4). Pour the extra glitter out of the ornament onto a paper plate so you can pour it back into the container. Set the bulb back in the package it came in to dry. Replace the top on the bulb once it has completely dried, after about 20 minutes.
