"The Conjuring" Blu-ray Review

The Conjuring isn't just the best horror movie of 2013, it's also one of the better films of the year of any genre. James Wan (the Saw films, Insidious 1 & 2) knows exactly which buttons to push in order to scare the pants off his audience, and with The Conjuring, he delivers his best movie to date and his final horror film before taking a break to work on other projects including the seventh film of the Fast and Furious franchise.

For those who missed it in theaters or want to relieve the terror of The Conjuring, Warner Bros Home Video is releasing the movie on home video in a Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD package.  And after having initially watched the film on the big screen, I can say that it's no less creepy on Blu-ray and DVD.  Plus, there's the benefit, of course, of getting to go behind the scenes via the extra features.

Unfortunately, the one missing element is a commentary track. James Wan didn't do one for The Conjuring and this is a film that almost screams out for one detailing all the juicy details on shooting the film, staging specific scenes, more on the true story, and other tidbits from behind the scenes. That said, the three bonus features included in the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD package are worth checking out:

 - The Conjuring: Face-to-Face with Terror: The real people who were affected by the events portrayed in The Conjuring share their memories of living through this terrifying experience.

 - A Life in Demonology: For believers, this bonus feature's a must-watch as experts in the paranormal field share their knowledge.

 - Scaring the "@$*%" Out of You: Director Wan is featured in this behind-the-scenes look that explains how Wan sets up the scares.
