The Types of Knock-Off Uggs
- Sold exclusively at Payless stores, Airwalk-brand faux-shearling shoes go for about one third of the price of the real thing. These shoes are sold in a variety of colors and styles, including short and tall boots. Airwalk also manufactures UGG-like slippers with faux shearling to keep your feet toasty, and a line of metallic shoes.
- Emu-brand shoes, also designed and manufactured in Australia, are sold at the same price point as UGGs and are made with real shearling. However, these shoes are completely water resistant, making them a good choice for the snow. Emu shoes come in short, tall and miniature. The collection even boasts a pair of leather fashion boots. They come in a variety of colors, from pink to blue to tan.
- Bearpaw shoes are slightly less expensive than their UGG counterparts, but look extremely similar. They feature real shearling inside of boots that are 2, 8 or 12 inches high. Bearpaw boasts a wide array of colors, from blue to purple to green and also features shoes with animal print and reptile designs. The brand also carries rain boots with a shearling lining.
- Several stores have decided to cash in on the UGG craze by manufacturing their own knock-off versions, typically for a fraction of the cost. Charlotte Russe, Target, Bakers, Macy's and Wal-Mart all make their own versions of the UGG shoe, although in a limited number of colors and heights. The soles on these shoes are often thicker than those of the original UGGs, but they may or may not be water resistant. If you plan to wear them in the elements, it is important to ask the sales representative before you purchase them.
