Journey of Bollywood…...... Now and Then

The term Bollywood involves the glimpses of extravagant, intense productions that are shot in unusual places that mostly feature stunning actors and actresses choreographed impressively with the dancing numbers. The €B€ of Bollywood comes from Bombay, the heart of Film world. The term was coined in the year 1970 through a magazine column. In the beginning there was a strong disagreement with the journalist. But with the passage of time the first Indian silent film named €Raja Harishchandra€ was the major release. The film was produced by Dadasaheb Phalke is regarded as the first tycoon of Indian cinema.
But if we look at India's national cinema background, how it grow and the silver screen films released every year together with the audience presence?
There are a large number of sources that completely disagree with defining Bollywood as €Mumbai Film Industry€. But in reality the term does not encompass all the Indian Cinema, contributing nearly 20% of the total films in the country. Right from the time India got independence, the period from 1940s to 1960s is considered as the Hindi Cinema's €Golden Age€. The major releases include €Pyaasa€, €Kaagaz ke Phool€ and how can we forget the greatest hit €Awaara€. These films were based on Hindi fiction and epics. The golden age of bollywood marks its identity through Nargis, Vyjanthimala, Nutan, Madhubala and Mala Sinha. At the time Hindi Cinema was flourishing, there was seen a €Parallel Cinema Movement€ led by Bengali movies.
Music is an association that defines the characteristic of Bollywood movies, and it has nourished the film industry for years. Music directors as well as the film composers think about the need for songs in movies. The music has become the part of the film industry as outfits. At the times when it was possible to put songs in films, Indian traditional music was not the admired much. Additionally, the classical tradition generated performers, not the composers. With the passage of time it was possible to record the picture and sound separately and then merge them together into a flawless stripe.
Playback turns off unfamiliar spectators because it was noticeable that the actors are not singing. On the other hand, it was regarded as double enjoyment€"watching the actress and hearing the singer. But the major problem was the noise of the film equipment. This was very loud that the dialogues were dubbed again. Adding to the voyage, in the year 2001, €Lagaan€ was the first synchronous sound film produced.

The playback songs have gained importance in today's cinema by becoming an inevitable part of the film. The casting of scenes of a song became a complex concern. Music was permitted to fit in a number of styles. Including songs in the movies slowly became a popular culture. Today, 80% of famous music in the country is one or the other song of a film. It is no use to make comparison between Bollywood and Hollywood. This is because that the two are entirely different categories. But it is unusual that the Hollywood singers die at fifties. This is because pop music rose up as a powerful entity.
