How to Capture With a Digital Video Recorder

Connect the 4-pin end of the FireWire to your camera. - 2

Connect the other end of the FireWire to your computer. Depending on your computer's input, it will either be a 4-pin or 6-pin FireWire connector. - 3). Turn your camera to VCR mode. It may also be called playback mode.
- 4). Set your tape to the place you want to start capturing from.
- 5). Open your video editing software.
- 6). Click "File > Capture."
- 7). Make sure your capture settings are set to the same settings your camera is set to. This includes frame rate, aspect ratio, and SD or HD. Use the Menu button pn your camera to navigate through the camera's settings. Click "File > Preferences > Capture Settings" to navigate through your software's capture settings.
- 8). Click "Capture" on your editing software.
- 9). Stop the capture process by pressing "Stop" on either the camera or the software.
