How to Make a Ribbon Christmas Tree Topper
- 1). Choose decorative ribbon with which to create the tree topper. Pick wired ribbon at least 2-to-3-inches wide for a small Christmas tree, 4-to-5-inches wide for a medium-sized tree and 6-to-7-inches wide for a large tree. Determine the length of the ribbon by how long you want the streamers to be. Pick a ribbon color, such as gold, red and green plaid or silver, and a ribbon material, such as lush velvet, filmy organza, rich brocade and elegant satin, according to the overall look of the tree. Cut the desired length of ribbon using craft scissors.
- 2). Decorate the ribbon with craft items. Grasp a flat-backed glass gem or bead with tweezers. Apply a dab of glue from a hot glue gun on the back of each gem and press them onto the ribbon. Use adhesive-enhanced gems or beads in combination with a heat-set tool in place of the hot glue if you desire. Place the decor items all around the perimeter of the ribbon for a decorative look.
- 3). Tie the decorated ribbon into a bow shape around the top of the Christmas tree. Allow the ribbon streamers to drape down the sides of the tree.
- 4). Wrap the ribbon streamers around an empty cardboard paper towel roll to create a curled effect. Remove the paper towel roll and manipulate the wired ribbon into tight or loose waves to reflect your preferred look.
