Video: How to Book Shows Without a Booking Agent
Video Transcript
As an independent band, if you're going to go ahead and do this just as a band (your going to go on tour). You're going to have to take care of all the logistics yourself. From booking, promotions, getting all the hypothetical "t's crossed" and "i's dotted" as you're on the road, which could be really stressful for a band, if you're not divying out the work. The best advice I can give is make sure everybody in the band has something to do and is a part of the whole process. You want to designate one point person for the band so that one guy is talking to the venues not every person in the band. It's very important also that the venue see one guy in, or talk to one guy and they are not talking to everybody in the band, because everybody else has different opinions. The good thing about it also is you keep all the money. You go to your shows, you do your shows, you sell your merchendise. You guys keep the money. You pocket it. You put it in your account and you're done. That's a good thing. The bad part about it is you have to again divy up all the responsibilities. As far as directions go, as far as how much you guys are getting paid. If a bad deal goes down where the venue is not going to pay you what they promised or you're not exactly sure that the door-split is right or correct, or accurate. You're going to get real squirrly when you are working as a band doing that.
