How to Troubleshoot a Craftsman Door

    • 1). Plug a lamp or other small appliance into the outlet that powers the opener if the door opener won’t work from the remote or the door control. Check the fuse box or circuit breaker if the lamp doesn’t light.

    • 2). Look under the door to see if there is a buildup of ice or snow, if it’s the winter and the door won’t operate. Look at the bottom of the door to ensure that it isn’t frozen to the ground. Chip away any ice or snow and remove all obstructions.

    • 3). Wait for 15 minutes so the overload protector in the motor resets itself, if you’ve used the opener a lot in a short period of time and the door won’t open and close.

    • 4). Switch the location of the remote control in your car if it seems to have a short range for opening the door. Inspect the back panel of the opener to ensure that the antenna extends down completely.

    • 5). Check the buttons on the remote control to make sure that none of the buttons are pressed down if the door operates by itself. Clear out the memory and reprogram the remotes. Try removing the bell wire from the door control terminals to rule that out as the cause if the other fixes don’t work.

    • 6). Remove any obstructions from in front of the door sensors if the door won’t open all the way, or if it opens partially and closes. Increase the door's "Up Force," which is adjusted on the back of the door opener.
