Eliminate Background From An Image In Few Steps

When we take photos at a party or wedding, several people become a part of the photographs even if we don't want them in the same frame. While it's rude to tell someone to go away because you want the perfect backdrop for the pictures, you can edit your digital images later at home or hire a background removal service provider for the job.

Background removal is considered as a tough job by many and that is why, people generally prefer to hire a professional for the task, but if you have prior experience in Photoshop and have the guts to give it a try, here is a helpful guide for you.

Suppose, you have taken a beautiful photo of your friend and his wife during their anniversary night, but unfortunately the wall behind them is not so well decorated and does not go with the image. So, what can you do? You can simply remove the wall from the photo and add something interesting like an image of a garden in the backdrop to make the picture absolutely perfect. Let's find out how.

  • First, open the image in Photoshop and duplicate the background layer. This is crucial because if anything goes wrong, you will still have the original as backup. You may have confidence in your skills, but since you are not as trained as professional background removal service providers, you should not take any chances. Once the "background copy" layer is created, you must uncheck the eye mark on the "background" layer to make it invisible.

  • Pick the lasso tool and select the area you want to keep (your friend and his wife). After the selection is complete, use move tool to move the selected area. The backdrop portion that the foreground characters occupied remains empty. Press Ctrl + C to copy the selected area (your friend and his wife) and press Ctrl + V. A new layer will pop up with the pasted content. Now, you can delete the "background copy" layer.

  • Lasso tool may not help you select the characters from edges and hence, the copied content may have some elements from the background. In order to remove the small unwanted parts of the wall, still attached to the photo, you must select the "magic wand tool". Click on the areas of the wall and hit delete. This way, you will be able to remove the last trace of that ugly wall from the beautiful photo of the married couple.

  • Finally, create a new layer to add a surrounding of your choice (in this case, a photo of a garden) and your job is done.

I guess after reading this, you must have realized that removing background from photos is not such a complicated task. Photoshop comes with all the necessary tools for image editing. All you need to know is how to use them properly. However, buying an original package of Adobe Photoshop is not a viable option for many as it is very costly. Those people can simply hire a background removal service provider in their city and let the professionals do their job.
