How To Make A Homemade Volcano Project
Volcano projects are an awesome project to make with your children whether its for school or just a fun rainy day project to pass the time. This is the best and easiest way I have found and have always had a great time with my children making it! It was so priceless seeing the look on my 2 year olds face when the volcano erupted! Make sure you have a camera ready if this is your child's first experience with making a volcano! So if your ready to find out how to make a homemade volcano project, keep reading!
First you need to shape a piece of cardboard or heavy duty poster board into a cone shape. Next insert a 4- ounce cup in to the top of the cone to make the crater of the volcano. Stand up and attach the cone onto a baking sheet or large piece of wood. Cover the cone with plaster of paris make sure you plaster it all the way down to the base adding extra support for the cone. Try and make sure that you don't get any in the cup. Let the cone dry completely. Once it is dry you can begin Painting and decorating the cone to look like a real volcano. Adding extra decorations such as palm trees, streams, and rocks looks really cool!
Now for the fun part! Making the Eruption!
First you need to Mix 1/2 cup vinegar with 1 teaspoon dish washing liquid ( you can add little red food coloring to give it a little extra flare!) Next put 1 teaspoon baking soda into the crater cup. Last but not least pour the vinegar mixture into the crater.
If you are short on time and just want a fun activity for the day we have went out into our backyard and made a mini-volcano in our sandbox. All you need is a juice glass with vinegar and place it into a mountain made of sand. Then you add your 1 tablespoon of baking soda into the glass and Ta DA!
