Northern Minnesota boasts many different campgrounds and resorts, many of which cater to recreational vehicles. Rates and options, like electricity amount and sewer hookups, vary depending on the location, but all RV sites include water access. - In addition to cottages and cabins for rent, Ruttger's Pine Mountain Resort near Backus features a host of RV sites, equipped with a minimum of soft water access and 30 amps of electricity, with 50 amps at some sites. Rates for RV camp sites vary depending on season. Campsites with basic water and electric hookups cost $30 per night during spring and fall, and $45 per night during summer, while these rates for sites with water, sewer and electricity are $50 and $51, respectively, based on 2010 rates. For those looking to enjoy the Pine Mountain Lake, the resort offers free use of kayaks and paddle boats, and rents pontoon and fishing boats. On-land activities include horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, shuffleboard courts and a game room. Backus is located about 140 miles west of Duluth.

The resort offers only full water, electricity and sewer hookups for RV campsites, and charges on a weekly, monthly or seasonal basis. As of June 2010, the RV site rates are $210 per week or $700 per month, which is considered to be a 28-day period. Those interested in seasonal sites should call for rate information. Located on Cass Lake, the lodge features a beach for swimming or sunning and also offers paddle boats and canoes. The main lodge building features cable TV and a game room, and the site also boats a restaurant and lounge.

Electricity is available in 20, 30 or 50 amps depending on the site. Campsites can be rented on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. As of June 2010, rates are $25 per day, $150 per week or $480 per month for 20 or 30 amp sites, compared to $27, $162 or $530, respectively, for sites with 50 amps. Seasonal sites also can be rented for $1,200 plus metered electric costs. The park offers a swimming beach, fishing pier, playground, picnic shelter and a log pavilion. A 5-mile hike and bike trail also encircles the park. Birch Lake RV Park is located in Babbitt, about 90 miles north of Duluth.

Waste disposal for RV's is $6 per night, but offered free with a two night or more stay. Each RV site features water and electric hookups. RV sites also are available during the winter. Popular activities at Wildhurst include fishing at nearby lakes and streams, and rock climbing. The campground includes a main lounge and general store for its visitors. During the winter months, guests can enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobiling and downhill skiing in the area surrounding Wildhurst.
