How to Make Pedestal Table Legs

    • 1). Set up the router so that it will make a router cut to the full depth of the dovetail bit. Adjust the router table fence to make the cut in the center of the width of the 4-by-4 posts.

    • 2). Rout a 4-inch long dovetail in the center on all four sides of one end of each post. These will be the slots to accommodate the legs.

    • 3). Place the four boards on a work surface. Draw the curve of the leg onto the board. The end that mounts to the center should be 4 inches wide. The other end should round down to the bottom corner.

    • 4). Transfer the curves to the three remaining boards using the flexible curve ruler and pencil. Cut out the curved legs using a band saw. These are the leg boards.

    • 5). Sand the wooden parts with fine-grit sandpaper until the boards are smooth. Be sure to sand with the grain

    • 6). Adjust the fence on the router table to create the dovetail cut on the 4-inch wide end of each of the four leg boards. Run the boards through the router table to produce the male ends of the dovetail joint. The 3/4-inch wide ends of the board should be against the table. Run one 6-inch face against the fence. Flip the board around and run the opposing 6-inch face.

    • 7). Apply wood glue to the dovetail ends of the four legs. Slide the legs into the slots in the center post. Wipe off any glue that oozes out. Allow the glue to dry. Use the leg assembly to complete your project.

    • 8). Screw one adjustable furniture foot into the bottom end of each leg.
