How to Use a Dumpster & a Pod to Declutter & Organize
- 1). Set parameters for what you want to throw away, recycle or just store temporarily. This will help you decide what size of Dumpster and PODS you may need for the job, since the container sizes vary. You also might need to check with your homeowner's association if you live in a community that has covenants, codes and restrictions that residents must follow. Many associations have restrictions on how long and what kinds of Dumpsters and PODS can sit outdoors.
- 2). Contact a company or service provider in your area that rents Dumpsters or PODS to rent one. Give them an estimate of how long you need the container, although you can shorten or extend the amount of time. The companies that provide these containers deliver them to your door and place them where you specify.
- 3). Inspect the goods that you want to get rid of. Local charities may accept donations if your furniture and household items are good enough to resell. If you have many electronics to get rid of, consider taking them to recycling centers found at local office supply or electronics stores for recycling.
- 4). Throw away anything that cannot be recycled or reused in the Dumpster. You can place items you want stored for short periods in the PODS. When the cleaning and organizing job is complete, the PODS provider can bring your items back.
- 5). Keep the Dumpster in the front yard or driveway as long as your project takes so you use the extra storage capacity for unwanted trash. This will keep your normal garbage can free for household and kitchen garbage.
- 6). Notify the PODS or Dumpster company when you have finished using it to have the company send a truck to retrieve the container.
