A Roll On Bedliner

A do it yourself bed liner can end up looking like it was sprayed on or brushed on for that matter. Roll on application works about as well as spraying on liner paint. Tips follow for installing a liner yourself.

The finished look is partly because textured bed liner paint covers all sorts of defects. There's also this to consider. See, the paint is so thick that it really builds up a substantial layer of material. There is curing required for the liner paint. It's during the curing that the bed liner paint just droops or settles and a smooth surface with texture is the result. Roll on is about the same as a spray coat except with little mess to deal with.

Washing the truck seems a simple matter. Washing the bed is an essential first step to a great finished look. Here's why... It's because the wax and grease on a truck all but make it certain that paint will not stick. It's a simple matter of washing and cleaning with an automotive cleaner made to remove wax and that will be the first step to success.

In addition, a really roughed up surface is the key to getting paint to stick. That means no fine sanding is needed, just the roughest of sanding. It's more like scratching that you really want and need. Less chance of peeling result from the right preparation.

It's possible to get a bed liner kit and avoid the hassle of putting together all the components you need. The kit probably will save money and certainly saves some time. Herculiner is not the only source for the kit solution.

More paint is a good idea. A gallon is the most oft discussed quantity of paint. That will cover a full size pickup, but just barely. Better to get some extra, especially when you know that a thicker cost means more protection.

Have reasonable expectations. As suggested above, spray on liners put on by the pros are much thicker than what you put on. Thickness of the finished coat is key to the results from a professional liner. Thick coatings are tough to scratch through and tough to harm. Professional liners are winners when it comes to durability and toughness.

Older trucks are the natural spot for a do it yourself bed liner and that's partly because of the price. Thick liner paint goes on easy and is a fast way to improve the looks of a pickup. The project requires some work but the savings may make it worth your time and effort.
