Celosia Plant Care Instructions
- Planting should be done in the spring. Container-grown celosias should be spaced at least 12-inches apart in well-drained soil. Dig a hole to accommodate your plant, place it in the hole, and backfill with soil. Compact the soil and water thoroughly.
- Celosias are pretty maintenance-free plants. They can be planted directly into the garden bed or border, as well as in container pots.
An excellent dried flower, celosias can be cut at any time during the blooming season, usually in the late morning hours after the dew has dried. Clip off any leaves from the stems and hang by bunches upside down in a dark, dry place until fully dried. This may take two or three weeks.
The dried flowers can then be added to dried floral arrangements or even wreaths and other holiday decorations. - Pinch off any smaller buds to encourage a bushier plant. Celosias should not be allowed to dry out, so water them on a regular basis or during periods of excessive heat or drought.
