Why You Don"t Need to Own Your Beats?
Don't believe the hype? There are not many up and coming indie singers or rappers making money off of radio airplay.
There are not many making money from CD sales or shows? There are not many who understand the music business? So, why do so many artists think they need to exclusively OWN the beats (production) they want to use? So many up and coming artists have dreams of selling 1,000,000 records without being able to sell 4,000 of their current music.
So many artists have big dreams but have no plan to fulfill it.
So many artists struggle with so much pride in self, that they struggle with making good business decisions.
If you are an artist and fit in one of these categories, I bet that you also feel that you only want to use beats exclusively for yourself.
There are more pros than cons to leasing a beat than trying to flat out own one exclusively.
Since, the con list is so short, let's start with that.
The cons to not owning your beat exclusively is NONE.
There are no cons to not owning your beats exclusively as I will further explain.
However there are numerous pros.
First, it's fits into your budget.
Most up and coming artists can't afford to pay $500 for one track but can afford to pay $500 for 15 beats.
Next, you can sell up to 4000 copies of your music agreed upon from most beat-makers and you do not have to pay mechanical royalties on sales.
Third, when you are ready for exclusive beats, usually after you have sold 4,000 units, you can now afford to invest in exclusive beats because you have a track record of making sales now and have interest in the marketplace.
Fourth, you can get a beat that maybe another artist came weak on before you and make a hot song and get a hit record.
Otherwise, you never would have gotten the opportunity to do so.
Finally, If your CD flops, at least you didn't invest thousands of dollars in it and lose your house.
Leasing tracks is the ideal way to work your way up in the music business for rappers and singers.
It's time to swallow your pride thinking that only you should use a certain beat.
It benefits you to do everything from a business point of view in this industry and not always from an artist point of view.
