PaintShop Pro is a digital image editing program. Designer Info reports that while PaintShop Pro 8 does not include as many features as Adobe Photoshop, a similar type of application, and it is less expensive, making it suitable for non-professional users. However, PaintShop Pro 8 comes with a laundry list of minimum system requirements. If you know what these are, you will have no problem running the program. Ignore them and your computer may slow to a crawl, if it runs the software at all. - Processors, otherwise known as central processing units (CPUs), execute software instructions and are the component most responsible for overall computer performance. PacificGeek.com reports that PaintShop Pro 8 requires an Intel Pentium processor or better. Visit the first link in the resource section of this article for specifications on Intel Pentiums.
- When you run an application and open a file, your computer stores that application and file in its system memory, or RAM. If there's not enough RAM to fit a program and the files you're working with, the program runs much more slowly and might freeze or stop running all together. PaintShop Pro 8 requires a minimum of 128 MB of RAM.
- RAM memory loses its data the instant you turn off your computer. Thus, your hard drive is responsible for long term storage of all programs and files. PaintShop Pro 8 takes up 200 MB of hard drive space. Make sure you have at least this amount free before installing the software.
- Your computer's operating system oversees the operation of all software and enables software to work with the hardware components such as the memory and processor installed on your computer. To run PaintShop Pro 8 you must have either Microsoft Windows 2000/XP, Windows 98 2nd Edition, Windows NT 4.0 SP6a, or Windows Millennium Edition installed on your computer.
