Lopressor (Metoprolol) Side Effects
- Lopressor may cause dizziness, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and hiccups. It may also cause heart palpitations.
- Potentially life threatening side effects of Lopressor are bronchospasm, depression, slow heart rate, congestive heart failure, AV block, cardiac arrest, purpura, edema or chest pain. It may also cause agranulocytosis, which causes frequent infections; thrombocytopenia, which is a low blood platelet count; or eosinophilia, which is a high eosinophil count.
- Lopressor may also cause mental changes, headaches, fatigue, sore throat, dry eyes, dry mouth, constipation, cramps, flatulence, rash, dry skin, alopecia, impotence, shortness of breath, or wheezing.
- Lopressor is contraindicated in those with sinus bradycardia, bronchial asthma, 2nd or 3rd degree heart block, cardiogenic shock or hypersensitivity to Beta-blockers.
- Caution should be used when prescribing this medication to those who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Also if the person has diabetes mellitus, renal or hepatic disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, thyroid disease, chronic heart failure, coronary artery disease or is a geriatric patient.
