How to Construct a Smoke House

    • 1). Make the first side of the smokehouse by fitting together five boards by clamping them together, using the galvanized screws. Make sure the tongue of the boards (side opposite the edge groove) is facing the same way toward the back.

    • 2). Make sure the boards are 5 feet 9 inches, and cut a slight slope at the top of these boards with the circular saw. Cut the framing pieces to 1 1/2-by-1 1/2-inch dimensions. Fasten the framing pieces to the sides with the galvanized deck screws. Fasten extra framing pieces along the back edge of the side wall. Repeat this process for the other sides.

    • 3). Fasten framing lumber on the side you are using as the back wall of the smokehouse. Fasten the 2-by-4-inch cross braces to the two front side panels.

    • 4). Cut the 1-by-6-inch pine boards to a width of 3 1/8 inches and fasten them across the top and bottom of the opening, which will be the entrance to the shed. Add in the eight 1 1/2-by-1 1/2-inch shelf supports and fasten four on the inside of each side wall.

    • 5). Cut the remaining side to fit tightly between the top and bottom pine pieces. This side will eventually become the door to the smokehouse. Fasten the inside of the door using 1-inch-thick boards and positioning them in a "Z" formation. Attach the door to the smokehouse with two 4-inch strap hinges.

    • 6). Construct the roof by attaching the sheet steel to the top with screws. Be sure to leave a small gap between the sides and the roof, which will allow smoke to rise out of the smokehouse.

    • 7). Manufacture the shelves by sizing and putting in expanded steel, then reinforce these shelves with angle pieces. Make sure all oil is properly removed from the steel before putting food on them.
