Fitness and Nutrition Schools

    Brown Mackie College

    • Brown Mackie has schools in eleven different U.S. states, including Indiana, Arizona and South Carolina. The schools operate a class format of one course a month, ultimately leading to an associate's degree, diploma or certificate. The Salina, Kansas campus offers an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Health and Fitness Training. Students can study nutrition, weight management, body movement and more in preparation for an entry-level job in the health and fitness industry.

    Alexandria Technical College

    • This Minnesota-based college has a Health and Fitness Specialist program. Students can work towards a 32-credit diploma or a 72-credit Associate's in Applied Science degree. Required courses include the principles of nutrition, aerobic and flexibility training methods, and anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology. Potential careers in this discipline are fitness trainer, fitness club owner, or corporate wellness director.

    Algonquin Careers Academy

    • This private career college is based in Ottawa in Ontario, Canada. Their Fitness and Health Promotion program trains graduates to achieve certification in Canada as a Fitness Instructor Specialist, Personal Trainer Specialist or Nutrition and Wellness Specialist. Certification testing is held onsite for graduates of the program. Students develop skills to create and deliver quality fitness and healthy lifestyle plans, and may find work in community organizations, gyms or tourism.

    Utah Career College

    • The Health Fitness Specialist program was designed by the Utah Career College's Health Fitness Specialist Advisory Committee. These Salt Lake City fitness-industry leaders have developed a Bachelor of Science as a Health Fitness Specialist. Full-time students can earn their degree in three years, and some courses are offered online. Graduates will be prepared to successfully complete national health and fitness certification exams, as well as gain industry experience through an eight-week internship.

    University of Missouri

    • The University of Missouri, in Columbia, MO, runs a Nutrition and Fitness program for undergraduates. Students must complete general education requirements as well as program-specific requirements such as biochemistry, physiology and nutrition classes. Upon completion of 120 credit hours over a four-year period, students receive a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences, with an emphasis on nutrition and fitness.
