How to Adjust Knives on a Delta Planer

    • 1). Unplug the planer power cord from the power source.

    • 2). Turn the handle on the top of the planer to lower the head assembly. Remove the chip deflector from the planer.

    • 3). Place the knife setting gauge on the cutter head. The rounded sections of the gauge should be directly over the knife. The knife should just contact the bottom of the center portion of each end of the setting gauge when the knives are adjusted correctly. Check the other knife with the setting gauge in the same manner.

    • 4). Locate the seven locking screws in the knife locking bar. Loosen each of the seven screws slightly with the Philips screwdriver by turning them clockwise. Turn them just enough to relieve any stress in the cutter head but not enough to alter the knife setting.

    • 5). Apply pressure to the knife you are adjusting. Turn the seven knife locking screws clockwise just until the knife becomes loose. Lift springs raise the knife automatically until it makes contact with the knife setting gauge. Turn the seven locking screws counterclockwise to snug the knife locking bar, just enough to hold the knife in position. Repeat the process for the other knife if it needs adjustment.

    • 6). Turn the seven locking screws counterclockwise until the knives are secure inside the cutter head. Tighten the end screws first. Work your way inward and tighten the middle screws last. Put the chip deflector back into place.
