- 1). Wear heavy, protective gloves and capture the crawdads you see in your yard. Hold the part of the body that is just behind the claws to prevent any injuries from the pincers.
- 2). Place fish, meat, soybean cake or canned dog food in a crawdad trap as bait. Obtain a crawdad trap from a fishing supply store or garden center. Several types of crawdad traps are available, including funnel and drop-and-lift traps.
- 3). Set the trap outside in your yard in the late afternoon and leave it overnight. Crawdads are nocturnal and become active at night. Check the trap in the morning, remove any caught crawdads and set the trap again in the late afternoon until you get rid of the crawdad problem.
