What Breastfeeding Mothers Need

What do you need to be successful with breastfeeding.
Aside from the obvious plumbing concerns, and the support from your spouse and other family members, there are some products on the market that are aimed at making your life a whole lot easier.
In the beginning, all you may really need is a nursing top and bra or a good nursing tank, nursing pads, and some lanolin.
If you find yourself experiencing a great deal of discomfort, however, you may want to pick up a nipple shield and some gel pads, which reduce pain and promote healing.
A breastfeeding pillow of some kind is also recommended by most lactation consultants.
There are several types, but the type used in hospitals secures around the waist with a clip, helping to keep your baby safe from rolling between the pillow and you.
You will definitely want a nursing cover for those times when you need to breastfeed in public.
These make public breastfeeding less awkward.
It should be large, lightweight, breathable, and if possible, patterned.
It will need a way to wrap around the neck.
A breast pump is another must.
If you are planning to return to work full-time after your recovery, you may want to invest in a pricey double-electric model for speed and comfort.
A hand pump will also be a good back-up for when you don't have access to an electric outlet, or when your batteries are not charged.
If you are not sure how long you plan to breastfeed, renting the hospital pump is a good choice.
