- Automatic watches are powered by energy created by the routine motions of the user. They do not require winding or any form of battery to operate, relying instead on a self-winding mainspring.
- Kinetic watches are very similar to automatic watches. Both types are powered by the natural movements of the wearer. The difference is that kinetic watches use a motion-powered electric generator to operate, rather than a mainspring.
- The main advantage of both automatic and kinetic watches is ease of operation. Neither watch ever needs to be wound, nor do they have batteries that need to be replaced. Both types of watches cost around the same amount.
