Efficient Hiking Equipment

When going hiking it is necessary to have the proper equipment.
Hiking can be unpredictable even if the trails and the surrounding areas are familiar.
These items should be carried in a large backpack so they can be easily accessible.
An essential component to hiking equipment is a compass.
A compass is necessary in times when it's hard to tell direction by shadows and light.
Compasses also handy to make sure the path the hiker is taking is a straight line and not going around in circles.
In this day and age many hikers use a GPS tool, however it is always a good idea to have a compass on hand in case the GPS signal is lost or the batteries are dead.
A compass is a sure way to find the way out of trouble.
Another necessary item of hiking equipment is a first aid kit.
It is wise to always be prepared for any kind of an injury during a hike.
Whether it be a scrape by a stray tree branch or as severe as they deep gash or cut, a well stocked first aid kit is necessary.
A basic first aid kit should include band aids of every shape and size, burn cream, antiseptic wipes, gauze, pain reliever such as aspirin or Aleve, Benadryl in tablet form, and tweezers.
A third item that is a necessity for hiking is a pocketknife.
Particularly a Swiss Army type of knife.
The blade of the knife should be about three inches in length and the knife should have the ability to lock in the open position, otherwise the blade could close unexpectedly and cause damage.
Many of the Swiss army types of knives include a corkscrew, several different sizes of knives, tweezers, and a toothpick.
These items can come in handy during unpredictable instances.
A whistle is also a wise decision as a part of hiking equipment.
If a hiker gets in trouble the sound of the whistle will travel a greater distance farther than the hiker's voice.
If a large group of hikers are on a trail and someone gets far behind, that person can blow their whistle to let them know that they need to wait for them.
These are only a handful of necessities for a hiking trip.
Other necessities include the standard items such as the food, water, the right clothing, and flashlights.
Probably the most necessary part of hiking equipment includes a specific plan.
Having a detailed plan laid out and following it closely can make or break a hiking trip.
