EPA Job Description

    Biologists

    • The EPA employs biologists who assess how pollution and other environmental changes impact the animals living in a given area. Their expertise allows the EPA to work with companies so that their use of the environment does not cause any of the species currently living there to become extinct or endangered.

    Ecologists

    • Ecologists also work for the EPA. While these professionals are concerned about plant and animal life, much like biologists, they concentrate more on ecosystems as a whole. They study how current policies are affecting local ecosystems and make recommendations about how to protect at-risk ecosystems. These recommendations may include corporate partnerships to preserve land or changing waste disposal in the area.

    General Scientists

    • The EPA employs a number of other scientists that do a variety of jobs. Some investigate sources of pollution and other potential problems, or assess damage that has already been done. Others do field work that results in recommendations on how to protect specific habitats and environments, such as determining fishing quotas or safe levels of certain chemicals in American waterways.
