How to Play "Extra Draw Frenzy" Video Poker

Extra Draw Frenzy Video Poker is a newly introduced video poker game played on a standard casino-style machine with a variety of poker game types such as Jacks or Better, Double Double Bonus, and Bonus Poker. Extra draws are offered on a natural three-of-a-kind. This could become a very popular game.

In the world of Video Poker, everything changed with the introduction of Triple Play. That was two decades ago, and while no game has sparked as much interest since then, a hundred new games have hit the market hoping to capture that magic.

We’re still waiting.

However, there have been several games that have been successful in their own rights, and the addition of a type of bonus screen (so popular on slot machines these days) seems like a good place to start for a new game, so how about Trade Up Video Poker. Does that count? In Trade Up the player has the option of giving up the guaranteed three-of-a-kind payoff to draw to a four-of-a-kind on extra hands. The trade up, or trade off, is that it’s still hard to hit a four-of-a-kind and you don’t get paid unless you make at least a full house on your original or bonus hands. Enter Extra Draw Frenzy.

The Extra Draw Frenzy Difference

Instead of losing the payoff for a minimum three-of-a-kind, at Extra Draw Frenzy the player pays an extra credit each hand and receives the standard as well as larger payoffs for a full-house or four-of-a-kind. On a standard Double Double Bonus game, the player bets their usual five credits, plus one additional to be included in the bonus scree (extra hands).

However, the game is only available on Triple-Play and Five-Play. That means on Triple-Play your total wager will be 18 units (not 15).

According to IGT, the manufacturer, the return rate for a Double Double Bonus game with a 7/5 payoff (7 credits per unit bet on a full house, 5 credits per unit bet  on a flush) is 96-percent. Video poker odds vary, so check your pay screen!

Each Hand at Extra Draw Frenzy

At Triple Play you wager 18 credits. For example, suppose you are dealt three Jacks, then the screen automatically switches over to a new screen showing your original three Jacks on three hands, and several additional hands (again, from 3 to 7, depending on how lucky you are). Now your press draw and hope to catch a fourth Jack. Regardless of what you hit, you get your full payoff according to the usual pay table. That means, should you get 5 extra hands, you’ll get at least 5 x 15 credits, for a payoff of 75. Should you hit a single extra Jack, you payoff goes to 310 (250 plus 60).

Overall you can expect to play many hands before getting that three-of-a-kind (yup, about 50 hands), but when you do, you’ll get a pretty nice payoff. Remember that your investment will be larger (20-percent), so you’ll likely burn through more credits before getting that three-of-a-kind bonus.

In addition, if you are used to playing a single-line game instead of Triple-Play or even Five-Play, remember that your risk, or element of ruin is also significantly higher. At Triple-Play you will be wagering 18 credits every hand instead of your usual 5. That’s a quantum leap in credits and you will definitely see large swings in your bankroll. Just hope that the swings go both ways and you hit something good quickly!
