Discover Houston"s 10 Ultimate Sports Bars

Whether you're looking for the best sports bar to watch the NCAA tourney, NBA finals, or go-kart races, chances are this list of the best sports bars in Houston will have something for you.

1. Buffalo Wild Wings at Rice Village

BWW is basically the Wal-Mart of sports bars: it’s got pretty much everything you’d hope it has. This location gets super-packed super-quick, so get here early. Oh, and don't order the fried shrimp basket. That is, unless you like fried more than actual shrimp. In that case, order your eyes out.

2. Mezzanine Lounge

Need a martini while you watch college basketball, this dichotomous two-level place is perfect. Downstairs is classy, upstairs less so. (It’s like the opposite of a mullet.)

3. Home Plate Bar and Grill

Located across from Minute Maid Park, this place has a built in younger, louder, sportier vibe than a lot of other places. As such, you're either going hate it here or love it, there's no in between. It's the Tracy McGrady of sports bars, I suppose.

4. SRO Sports Bar

Just a nice, typical sports bar. One notable difference from a lot of other sports bars is that that have music Fridays and Saturdays which, depending on if your team covered the spread or not, is going to sound really great, or just gawdawful.

5. 702 Patio Bar

This is another sort-of-upscale sports bar, but it gets extra points for its solid patio, which is possessed of a nice view of downtown. Plus, it’s in an area of town where it’s feasible to walk to another locale should you please, which is a nicety that shouldn’t be overlooked in sprawling Houston.

6. Fox and the Hound

This is an enjoyably oversized bar. Lots of pool tables, waitresses, and beers. (To be honest: a portion of the reason that I’m adding this place to the list is because I watched an Astros playoff game here back in 2005 on their march to the World Series and it was just bananas.)

7. Fox Sports Grill

It's never gotten terribly raucous when I hit this place up –even during the famed France vs. Italy soccer game where Zinedine Zidane headbutted that guy - so this might be an ideal place for this looking to carry on a conversation (during commercials, of course). Good food, too.

8. Mike's Ultimate Sports Bar

It's everything you'd expect called "Mike's Ultimate Sports Bar and Grill" should be. Naturally, Wednesdays are the one pound ribeye steak night/lingerie show/trivia contest. They also offer live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

9. Woodrow's Bar and Grill

A very solid choice with a nice big-neighborhood bar feel to it. They’ve got lots of really good food choices here, too. Give the crawfish a shot. You'll be glad you did.
